What are Symptoms of A Yeast Infection

What are Symptoms of A Yeast Infection?

Yeast infections are very common infections. What are Symptoms of A Yeast Infection?

Sometimes they are obvious – in other words, you can probably Google it and diagnose yourself.

Some are not so obvious – hence what prompted me to write this article.

Let’s talk about the obvious ones first.

What are Symptoms of a Yeast Infection – The Obvious Ones:

  • Vaginal yeast infection – itchy, burning or painful vagina and/or vulva with discharge that often occurs after a round of antibiotics.
  • Yeast infection of the mouth – know as ‘thrush’ this is a white coating on the tongue that often occurs after antibiotics.
  • Yeast infection of the nails – usually seen on toenails more than fingernails; yellow color, peeling and cracking.
  • Yeast infection of the skin – typically red and itchy, the usual places being in warm moist areas – between the toes (athlete’s foot); groin area (jock itch); under skin folds (like pendulous breasts and pendulous belly fat); on your bum (diaper rash).
  • Sinus yeast infection – recurrent sinus infections that don’t get better with antibiotics.

What are Symptoms of a Yeast Infection – The Not So Obvious Ones:

Now here’s where it gets tricky. Some yeast infections are deep in your body and don’t give you any clear obvious symptoms that point directly to yeast infection.

Here’s an example that many women will relate to (and if you’re a guy you should keep reading as well):

For whatever reason you need to take a round of antibiotics. Now often what happens next is a raging vaginal yeast infection. It’s quite obvious with all the itching, burning, pain and discharge you have a vaginal yeast infection because the antibiotics killed off the bacteria (the good ones and the bad ones), and left the yeast free reign to grow out of control.

Now, what if you don’t get a vaginal yeast infection at all? Or, what if you’re a guy and don’t have a vagina?

You’ll often still end up with a yeast infection – it will just be deeper in your body…usually somewhere in your intestines. And it will be there, for months and years, slowly creating chaos and ill health.

Here are the common symptoms of a ‘hidden’ yeast infection:

  • Craving sweets
  • Fatigue
  • Poor memory
  • ‘Spacey’ feeling or brain fog
  • Hard time sleeping
  • Need lots of sleep
  • Anxiety
  • Mood swings
  • Muscle/joint aches and pains
  • Intolerant to alcohol
  • Feel drunk
  • Itchy skin/rash

Does this sound like you?

If you have at least four of these symptoms you might be suffering from a hidden yeast infection.

Watch for my next article on the common triggers for yeast infections (besides antibiotics) and how to properly test for yeast infections.
