Get Your Happy Back with Dr. Kenford Nedd

In this episode of The Functional Medicine Radio Show, Dr. Carri’s special guest Dr. Kenford Nedd talks about how to be happy and GREAT.

Dr. Nedd is a practicing medical doctor and is the creator of The Stress Survival Kit and author of “The Time to Be Happy is Now” and “Power Over Stress” which is used at New York University.  He gives practical techniques to help you get your happy back and master the stress in your life. He is the president of the International Stress Control Center, a contributor to CBC, has a TV show and a radio show called 1 minute with Dr. Ken Nedd.

  • Longevity is linked to 3 factors:  conscience passion, activity/exercise/movement, emotional competence which includes happiness.
  • The single factor which determines how long you’ll live is how happy you are.
  • Make the decision to be happy.  It’s the equivalent of doing 15 minutes on a stationary bike!
  • Despite what’s going on in your life, if today you decide to adopt the body language, thoughts, etc to be happy, you will raise your levels of IgA (helps to fight disease) and IgM (immune system chemicals).
  • People who have been diagnosed with cancer and decide that they’re going to be happy anyways, lived longer than those who did not.
  • Happiness has physiological consequences.  You risk dying when you have unhappy thoughts.
  • One friend that’s happy has enormous value to you.
  • Happiness can increase your wealth and performance.
  • Become a Giver in your relationships and at work, just serve others.
  • Money can buy happiness – when you share it with other people.  Giving turns money into joy.
  • Relax!  Take a deep breath through your nose.
  • Relaxation is not what you do – it’s what you allow to happen.
  • Be GREAT!  G – Give, R – Relax, E – have Empathy, A – Act the part of a happy person, T – be Thankful/grateful.  These are all important to happiness.
  • By changing the outer actions of our body, we change the inner workings of our mind.
